DESCRIPTION: Horace Richmond, Canandaigua NY, tall clock, 8 day, time and bell strike, weight driven movement in a solid cherry and mahogany veneer case with string inlay on trunk and hood on tapered Hepplewhite feet with painted iron dial decorated with conch shell in arch and American shields in spandrels, c1815
CONDITION: the case has been refinished with replaced arch and lower right molding on hood, replaced top dust cover (with modern paneling) and some inlay absent on upper right and left corners of hood door. There is a 1 3/4" strip on veneer missing on hood door and some veneer loss to right front foot. The cove molding on right hand side of trunk is loose and there is a small crack on left side of base and left front foot. The movement and dial are not original to the case but fit well. The pendulum is a replacement. Horace Richmond is listed in Spittler and Bailey's "Clockmakers & Watchmakers of America" as a silversmith by trade and a known tall clock movement.
